Species Management
GCIFA is responsible for partnering with the Department of Fishery and Oceans in contributing to or developing species management plans for every commercial fishery. The plans must comply with the intention of the federal Fisheries Act / Oceans Act and Species at Risk Act.

GCIFA has members engaged in fourteen directed fisheries that require a species management plan. These plans must be reviewed and updated annually and could run from one to ten years. Most of these plans may be found on the DFO website.
